Juneteenth marks a powerful turning point in American history – the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Since the late 1800s, African American communities have honored June 19 as a celebration of liberation, perseverance and cultural heritage. This month, Arkansas PBS invites you to join in that celebration with compelling programming that honors the stories, struggles and triumphs of Black Americans – past and present.

Dig into local flavor with the first episode of “To Dine For With Kate Sullivan’s: Season 7” featuring Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art founder Alice Walton. The episode will premiere on Arkansas PBS and stream at myarpbs.org/live Saturday, June 21, at 2 p.m.
Sometimes life finds a way, and in this case, it has! “Walking With Dinosaurs” is back! Originally released by BBC in 1999, the beloved six-part miniseries has been reimagined with new visual effects. Monday, June 16, through Wednesday, June 18, two episodes will air each night at 7 and 8 on Arkansas PBS and at myarpbs.org/live.

Even if you’re not, we have some fresh and flavorful recipes from the Arkansas PBS original production “Cooking on the Wild Side” for you to try this summer! And, don’t worry! We get right into it, so you won’t have to hear a background story of how every ingredient came into the kitchen.
Each Saturday at 2:30 p.m., “Cooking on the Wild Side” brings back Phyllis Speer and John Philpot with mouthwatering recipes and endearing banter from the original “Arkansas Outdoors” series.

From pioneering artists like Tyrus Wong and groundbreaking storytellers like Amy Tan, to bold documentarians capturing intergenerational struggles and triumphs, Arkansas PBS Passport offers a powerful slate of films that celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander experiences.
Steve Weldon is a self-described “adventure nut and a hiking fool.” From his start in radio to finding a love of the outdoors in Arkansas, Weldon’s career has brought him numerous opportunities, including hosting “Walkin’ West” as he discovers hidden gems in California, Alaska, Hawaii and many other states west of the Continental Divide. “Walkin’ West” airs Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. on Arkansas PBS.
