Sometimes life finds a way, and in this case, it has! “Walking With Dinosaurs” is back! Originally released by BBC in 1999, the beloved six-part miniseries has been reimagined with new visual effects. Monday, June 16, through Wednesday, June 18, two episodes will air each night at 7 and 8 on Arkansas PBS and at myarpbs.org/live.

Travel Through Time
Across the six episodes, you will meet dinosaur species through different prehistoric landscapes. Narrated by Bertie Carvel, each episode tells the dramatic story of an individual dinosaur whose remains are currently being unearthed by the world’s leading dinosaur hunters.

Thanks to cutting-edge science, experts can reveal how these prehistoric creatures lived, hunted, fought and died more accurately than ever before. As dinosaur bones are dug up, the series will bring these prehistoric stories to life with state-of-the-art visual effects.

I’m Like a Bird
Did you know Arkansas has a state dinosaur? In 2017, the Arkansas General Assembly named the Arkansaurus fridayi the state’s official dinosaur.

In 1972, Joe B. Friday discovered remains of a dinosaur foot on his land in Sevier County and donated the bones to the University of Fayetteville. UA professor James Quinn cleaned, assembled and constructed clay models of the bones to complete a partial foot. In 1973, he gave the bones the name “Arkansaurus fridayi.” Quinn believed the nearest relative to the bones was an Ornithomimus, a bird or ostrich-like dinosaur.

In 2003, with additional study by Rebecca Hunt and help from Quinn’s research, a formal description of the species in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology in March 2018, made the designation official.
