"Making Back-to-School Fun (Yes, Really!) With PBS KIDS"

13 Aug 2025 in

As the summer winds down and the new school year starts, Arkansas PBS is here to help families make the transition smooth, successful and even a little fun. Whether your child is feeling excited, nervous or a bit of both, PBS KIDS offers a wide variety of tips and tools – from crafts and games to articles – that can ease anxiety and set the tone for a great year ahead. With engaging ideas like building daily routines together or preparing for that all-important first day, these resources are designed to help kids step into the school year with confidence and curiosity.

Creating Daily Routines for Kids

Establishing consistent routines helps young children feel secure and at ease. Having a predictable daily schedule gives them a sense of stability, which can lead to improved behavior and greater cooperation. When children understand what’s coming next and what’s expected of them, they’re more likely to feel confident and comfortable facing the day. PBS KIDS has crafts that you can do with your children that make creating daily routines fun, like creating a “My Bedtime Routine” book, a refrigerator calendar, DIY Fun Time Spinners and more.

Getting Ready for School

The first day of school can bring a mix of excitement and nerves for both kids and adults. If your child is starting a new school, PBS KIDS has an article that can help prepare your child. Set goals for the new school year, or equip yourself with how to handle a hard first day.

Easing Anxiety

Going back to school can create anxiety in your child. It’s perfectly natural to feel that way. A new school year brings many changes – like a different classroom, a new teacher and unfamiliar classmates. Rules and routines may be different, along with new academic and behavior expectations. It can be a lot to adjust to for young children. PBS KIDS provides an article on how to cope with anxiety and how to beat back-to-school jitters.

Family Day

Fun-filled, family-friendly events, such as Arkansas PBS’s annual Family Day events in Conway and Springdale, can help encourage community spirit in your child. Family Day returns to the Arkansas PBS headquarters in Conway Saturday, Sept. 27, and to The Jones Center in Springdale Saturday, Nov. 8.

Stay tuned, and check out our events page for more details on these educational and entertaining events!
