Skylar Nelsen is a student at the University of Central Arkansas. She is a double major in film and creative writing and is looking to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in May of 2026. She has a passion for storytelling and hopes to pursue a career that allows her to constantly create and have fun.
Johnny Cash (1932-2003) is an American music legend with a career spanning nearly 50 years. His longevity and chart-topping hits made Cash a household name and in 2021, Act 916 passed the Arkansas General Assembly and was signed into law, declaring Feb. 26 Johnny Cash Day. On what would have been his 93rd birthday, Arkansas PBS celebrates Johnny Cash Day with fans and music experts from around the state who share their thoughts on the Man in Black.
Daisy Gatson Bates was a trailblazer in the Civil Rights Movement and played an integral role in the integration of Little Rock Central High School in 1957. She served as the president of the Arkansas Chapter of the NAACP. Her work made her a household name, and, on Feb. 19, 2001, the state of Arkansas declared that the third Monday of February would be Daisy Bates Day. This year, we celebrate Daisy Bates Day on Monday, Feb. 17.
Ms. Brushaber currently teaches at Joe T. Robinson Elementary School in Little Rock. She completed all 8 of the required courses to be entered in the challenge that was held from Dec. 12, 2024 – Jan. 10, 2025.
