Event to feature panel discussion about film’s relation to exhibit
CONWAY, Ark. (Arkansas PBS) — The Momentary, a venue for the music, art, and food of our time that is an extension of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in downtown Bentonville, will host a free screening of “Unveiled: Daisy Bates and Johnny Cash”. This original documentary from Arkansas PBS and award-winning filmmaker Nathan Willis explores the creation and installation of Arkansas’s newest statues at the U.S. Capitol and the enduring legacies of two of the state’s most iconic figures. The screening, including a panel discussion, will begin Sunday, July 20, at 4 p.m.; doors open at 3:30 p.m.
The post-film conversation will feature chairman of the National Hall Steering Committee Shane Broadway, director Nathan Willis, sculptor Kevin Kresse and Arkansas PBS Education Director Sajni Kumpuris, who will moderate. The discussion will focus on the documentary and its relation to the Momentary’s exhibition, “The Prison Concerts: Folsom and San Quentin (Jim Marshall’s Photographs of Johnny Cash).”
“Unveiled” documents the selection, creation and installation process of these new works for National Statuary Hall; illuminates the lives of Bates and Cash as worthy subjects for this honor; and reflects the creative process of the artists commissioned to create these sculptures. The film features steering committee interviews with the artist finalists, behind-the-scenes footage of the artists at work, and the installation at the U.S. Capitol.
Tickets to the event are free, but advance registration is required. Spots can be reserved online or by calling Guest Experience at 479.657.2335. Guests are encouraged to come early and visit the galleries to view the exhibitions. Admission to the Momentary is always free. More details can be found at The Momentary.
