Producer Robert VanCamp will be live in the Arkansas PBS studios

CONWAY, Ark. (Arkansas PBS) — Arkansas PBS will present “Great Scenic Railway Journeys: 30th Anniversary Special” Saturday, Aug. 16, at 6 p.m. where viewers will be treated to beautiful scenes from notable railways across U.S., Canada. Program producer Robert VanCamp will be live in the Arkansas PBS studios for breaks during the broadcast.

In this 30th anniversary special, viewers will gain access to some of America’s most notable railway adventures, from the Rocky Mountaineer to the Skyrail. More than just a tour, these stories offer a glimpse into our nation’s railroad history and explore how railroads defined the spirit of North America, creating a new industry and rewriting the history of transportation.

Viewers will hop aboard the Rocky Mountaineer, which offers a unique experience of train travel with Vista Dome cars; the legendary Canadian rail line, which spans from the Atlantic to Pacific oceans and offers non-stop views of the country’s majestic scenery; and take a step back in time on the East Broad Top railway of Pennsylvania, which allows first-hand access to what a railroad looked like in 1872.

The special also offers access to the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, a breathtaking journey by steam along the ocean’s edge; the Reading Blue Northern Railroad, a quaint tour through Pennsylvania that includes a stop at the final resting place of Olympic gold medalist Jim Thorpe; and the Potamic Eagle Scenic Railway, which includes some fantastic views of bald eagles in nature.
