Arkansas’s Hidden Role in ‘The American Revolution’: A Panel Discussion You Can’t Miss

08 Jan 2026 in

If you didn’t catch “The American Revolution,” a six-part, 12-hour documentary series from Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt, then we have good news! Starting Friday, Jan. 9, at 8 p.m., all six parts of “The American Revolution” will air each Friday through Feb. 13.

To whet your appetite in anticipation, in November, we had the wonderful opportunity to hear a dynamic conversation from experts from the University of Arkansas at the Jim & Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center in Fayetteville who connected Arkansas’s history to America’s story, which you can watch below!

Panelists from the University of Arkansas include:

In this conversation, explore a side of the American Revolution rarely highlighted: the complex, global, Indigenous and often surprising history of the region that would become Arkansas. This panel uncovers forgotten stories of Arkansas Post, Spanish and French rivalry and Quapaw and Chickasaw diplomacy, among other exciting topics.

The public is encouraged to join the conversation using #ARVoicesAt250 and to explore upcoming events, educational resources and opportunities for engagement at myarpbs.org/america250. #ARVoicesAt250 is sponsored in part by the Stella Boyle Smith Trust, whose support helps Arkansas PBS share the stories, scholarship and civic conversations that connect our state to the American experience.
