Monday’s brand new EA episode will take you mountain biking along beautiful DeGray Lake near Arkadelphia, going back in time at Historic Washington and taking in the gorgeous views along Yellow Rock Trail at Devil’s Den State Park.

Iron Mountain on the east side of DeGray Lake off scenic Highway 7 now has a 17-mile long bike trail for those of you who would like to take in the scenery of the lake in a different way.  The last phase of the trail, when completed, will put the total length to about 26 miles. The final section will offer scenic views of the lake, whereas the other sections follow mostly the wooded terrain of Iron Mountain.

Established in 1824, the town of Washington, north of Hope, was once a convenient stopover for travelers along the rugged Southwest Trail leading to Texas. Notable folks such as Sam Houston and Davy Crockett would pass through … including James Bowie, who asked the blacksmith to make him a fighting knife. This “Arkansas Toothpick,” called the Bowie knife, became legendary. To this day, you can visit the blacksmith shop and watch the forging of a Bowie knife yourself.

Historic Washington has been compared to Colonial Williamsburg, and the best way to see it all without walking is to take one of the surrey rides. 

Along the Yellow Rock Trail at Devil’s Den State Park in northwest Arkansas, you can experience magnificent rock overhangs and outcroppings followed by the spectacular views from atop Yellow Rock itself. If you just go to Yellow Rock only and then turn back – you can cut down the hike to a two-mile roundtrip.
