From zooming around in a George Jetson-type auto gyro … hiking to Artist Point Falls … to visiting a bluff shelter where ancient Ozark Bluff Dwellers once called home – all this and more is in store during a brand new episode of "Exploring Arkansas" Monday, Jan. 6, at 6:30 p.m.

The Auto Gyro is actually a cross between a helicopter and a plane. It’s also referred to as a gyroplane, and we had an opportunity to fly around in one at Byrd’s Adventure Center in the Ozarks. Talk about a unique way to see the countryside from above! Of course, with our special “Chuck Cam” onboard, we’ll be able to strap you into the seat as well in this awesome Jetson flying machine!

Being a favorite with both artists and photographers alike, “Artist Point” along highway 71 north of Mountainburg has long been a popular stopping-off spot for motorists to take in the spectacular views.  But, you’re missing half of the adventure if you don’t hike the trail that leads to Artist Point Falls. Along the trail there are even a few hieroglyphs you can examine that are etched into some of the bluffs – not to mention Lovers Leap.

The Blue Spring Heritage Center near Eureka Springs, has not only the second-largest spring in the state, next to Mammoth Spring ... but also an Ozark bluff shelter where artifacts have been found dating back 10,000 years, left behind by Ozark Bluff Dwellers. Blue Spring itself remains a mystery because its source is unknown. We’ll show video of underwater cave explorers who are doing a series of dives in attempts to learn more about this mysterious spring system.

Finally, we’ll pay a visit to the Lower White River Museum State Park in Des Arc and show you the important role this river served as a primary transportation route when pioneers and early settlers arrived on the Arkansas frontier.
