Fishing for world-class trout on the White River; digging for crystals at the World Championship Quartz Crystal Dig; taking a back roads tour between Little Rock and Memphis; and enjoying fine Mexican cuisine at a place you wouldn’t expect – it’s all coming up during a brand new episode of “Exploring Arkansas” on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 6:30 p.m.!
Gaston’s White River Resort south of Bull Shoals Lake in north Arkansas happens to be America’s premier trout fishing resort – and for good reason. Lunker trout is just for starters. There’s also an award-winning, five-star restaurant overlooking the White River, and Gaston’s even has its own landing strip, which brings in anglers from all over the South and Midwest. But what makes Gaston’s extra special is the shore lunch they offer to enjoy your catch-of-the-day! Mmm-mmm ...

Where else but the Quartz Crystal Capital of the World of Mount Ida can you enter the World Championship Quartz Crystal Dig to attain your own bragging rights in unearthing the finest crystals in the world? (Well, other than in Brazil.) The only other place on earth where one can find excellent quality quartz crystals and competition is Mt. Ida, Arkansas!

Sometimes you just have to take the back roads to really and truly enjoy a road trip. We did just that between Little Rock and Memphis – off the beaten path – to appreciate all of the mom and pop places along the way and see what nature has to offer. It’s the way travel used to be in America before all the interstates were built. Yep, nothing like tootling along on the ol’ two-lane to take in all that’s available – that is, if you’re not in a hurry.

What would you say if I told you that you could find some of the finest Mexican cuisine at a place right next to a gas station? (In fact, it's connected to a gas station.) Coco’s – not too far from Cabot – is just the place. We’re talking four-and-a-half to five star quality! No joke – this amigo is not playin’! Owner Francisco Olvera’s family recipes knock it out of the ballpark – and out of the gas station!!
Check it all out for yourself – Wednesday, Jan. 3!
