Our brand new “Exploring Arkansas” episode for August 4 includes a dream come true for an 88-year-young woman who has always wanted to float the Buffalo National River. There’s also kayaking and tubing adventure at a whitewater recreation park near Siloam Springs and a dive into the ol’ swimming hole at the Long Pool Recreation Area near Dover.
Millie Calhoun of Little Rock – for all her 88 years of living – said she wouldn’t be satisfied until she got the chance to float America’s First National River. In this episode, we arranged for Millie to do just that. With the Buffalo Outdoor Center in Ponca, we set out on a float trip covering the upper portion of the river. This is the section where 500 feet tall Big Bluff is located, among many other landmarks. It was a float trip that enveloped Millie Calhoun into an unforgettable peace, for an experience of a lifetime.
Utilizing the scenic Illinois River near Siloam Springs, an engineering marvel has turned a portion of the river into a year-long whitewater haven. Folks from all over now come to enjoy kayaking, canoeing and tubing at the Whitewater Recreation Park.
Speaking of water fun – the Long Pool Recreation Area in the Ozark National Forest northwest of Dover offers good ol’ fashioned swimming hole adventure with huge boulders, rapids, plus floating opportunities as well.
So, join in on all the watery fun Monday, Aug. 4 at 6:30 p.m.!
