Can’t visit the Grand Canyon in Arizona?  Well, then, visit the Grand Canyon in Arkansas! That’s right – during a brand new episode of “Exploring Arkansas” on Monday, July 7, you can experience what is known as “Arkansas’ Grand Canyon,” south of Jasper.  This canyon is much greener and can be seen driving along Scenic Byway 7.  Plus, there’s a couple of “must stops” along the way.

Exploring_Arkansas_Mulberry_River_Float

We’ve floated just about every stream there is to float in Arkansas … and now, finally, we made it to the Mulberry River. Why it took us this long to finally go down it, is beyond me. But, be that as it may … we combined this float with a little “float-fishing”  for smallmouth bass … not to mention “kayak fly-fishing,” as well.

Earthquake Ridge Trail, which parallels the Talimena Scenic Byway atop Rich Mountain, near Mena, offers some spectacular mountain biking opportunities.  It got its name not from an earthquake … but from some pretty unique rock formations and crevices nearby.

The recently restored St. Joe railroad depot along Highway 65 in north Arkansas is definitely worthwhile to stop and check out. We did just that and got a really fascinating history lesson about the old railroad line that used to run through that part of the state.

So enjoy “Arkansas’ Grand Canyon,” a float trip down the Mulberry, a mountain biking frenzy along the Earthquake Ridge Trail and an interesting railroad history – Monday, July 7, at 6:30 p.m.!
