That’s right—if you can’t get to Egypt to see the Great Sphinx, the Natural State has its own version you can experience! It takes a bit of a hike straight up a mountain, but the rewards are well worth it! The Arkansas Sphinx is located in the Ozark National Forest, northeast of Clarksville about twenty miles or so as the crow flies. It is quite impressive to say the least, and resembles a much more weathered Sphinx.
And there’s also an extra added attraction – a diamond-shaped hole right straight through the rock.
Lake Atkins, just outside the town of Atkins, may be little but the bass in it are BIG!
After the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission stocked it with Florida strain largemouth bass a few years back, this lake has been quite the talk with anglers from all over the state. And it’s not just tall fish tales, either.
The lunker bass proof is in all the pictures on the walls inside the Lucky Landing Bait Shop, where you can also sit down to a BIG burger! In fact – folks come to this lake just for the burgers alone!
Founded by Benedictine monks in 1878, life at Subiaco Abbey and Academy is quite the story.
It’s almost entirely self-sufficient — with a farm, vineyards, sawmill, carpentry shop and more.
