History can be re-traced by driving along the Butterfield stagecoach route through northwest Arkansas. On tonights brand new Exploring Arkansas episode, well take you with us as we go along paved roads and dirt roads through the Ozark National Forest - and even a foot trail section of the original route that extended from Missouri all the way to California. This was the longest stagecoach route in the history of the world.
We'll also take you hiking on a trail that loops around Lake Alma in the town of Alma. This new hiking trail is not too well known and is quite a gem to hike. From hiking, we go mountain biking along the unique geological formation known as Crowley's Ridge at Village Creek State Park north of Forrest City. There are some 25 miles of multi-use trails at this state park which traverse high ridge tops and streams.
Finally, well go smallmouth bass fishing at the blue ribbon stream for smallmouth, Crooked Creek, which flows between Harrison and Yellville. This outing was shot with Duane Hada whos a well-known fly-fishing guide and artist in the Mountain Home area. Our location was a honey hole of a spot at the Fred Berry Conservation Education Center just outside of Yellville. Oops now I gave away our secret (you didnt see this).
