Agri Arkansas January 2017

This month, we feature Arkansas’s 2016 harvests, as detailed by farmers across the state, and recognize the accomplishments of African-Americans in agriculture at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center’s Farm in the City event.

This episode also includes a guest appearance by Gov. Asa Hutchinson to address the normalization of relations with the Cuban government and how it could affect Arkansas agriculture. In a conversation with host Tony Brooks, Gov. Hutchinson discusses current opportunities available in the rice and poultry markets, previous negotiations with the Cuban government, the fluidity of the current political climate and projections for the future. The segment also discusses Gov. Hutchinson’s agricultural background, proposed Chinese investments in the Arkansas timber and garment industries, and possible export opportunities in the European market.
