Posted 15 Nov 2013
The Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) will air "The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About Christmas" on Nov. 27 at 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The program will repeat throughout Thanksgiving weekend and December.
The special, one-hour "Cat in the Hat" holiday celebration follows the Cat, Nick and Sally on a trip around the world to help a lost reindeer find his way home in time for Christmas. On their adventure to Freezeyourknees Snowland, the Cat in the Hat and friends depend on a variety of animals - from African bush elephants to bottlenose dolphins and red crabs - and their remarkable abilities to help navigate an amazing journey home.
"The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About Christmas" kicks off a special block of holiday themed programs leading up to PBS KIDS Holiday Week, Dec. 9-13. PBS KIDS Holiday Week features two new episodes of "Thomas and Friends" and encore presentations of holiday themed episodes of "Arthur's Perfect Christmas" and "Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas".
"Arthur's Perfect Christmas," airing at 6 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10, is an hour-long special that follows Arthur, D.W. and their friends and family as they make preparations for the "best holiday ever" in Elwood City. The group frantically prepares perfect gifts, perfect parties, and perfect family traditions for Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. But, just as in real life, perfection cannot last, and things begin to fall apart. Arthur learns that the joy of Christmas isn't found in an artificial vision of the perfect holiday season, but in the wonderfully messy, imperfect world he lives in.
"Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas" will air at 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9. George and The Man with The Yellow Hat are having a very merry time counting down the days until Christmas. There's only one puzzle: neither of them can figure out what to give the other for a present. The Man is having trouble reading George's wish list, and George doesn't have a clue about what to get for The Man who has everything. Will they be able to find the answers before Christmas morning?

"The Cat in the Knows a Lot About That" was created in response to recent findings that children graduating from kindergarten are less prepared to learn about science than about other subjects. The series supports young children's science learning by introducing scientific inquiry skills, teaching core science concepts and vocabulary, and preparing preschoolers for kindergarten and first grade science curriculum - all in whimsical style. Guided by the Cat in the Hat, the kids figure things out by observing, collecting and managing clues, making connections, constructing and evaluating theories and having discussions - all in a preschool-appropriate manner. "The Cat in the Knows a Lot About That" is a Portfolio Entertainment/Collingwood O'Hare Production, A Canada UK Co-Production produced with PBS (USA), Treehouse (Canada), in association with Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Random House Children's Entertainment and with the financial participation of the Canadian Media Fund, the Shaw Rocket Fund, and the Government of Canada. The series is distributed by Portfolio International.
