Arkansas PBS > Engage > Pressroom > New 'Agri Arkansas' episode premieres March 29 on AETN
Posted 19 Mar 2015
'Agri Arkansas,' a monthly series produced by the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN), will examine the soybeans' broad economic and agricultural impacts, as well as Arkansas's move to become the first state in the nation to grow edamame commercially, Sunday, March 29, at 1 p.m.
The March episode continues the series' focus on the impact of the state's agricultural industry by focusing on the soybean, often referred to as 'The Miracle Bean' due to its many uses. The Arkansas soybean crop – which generates approximately $1.7 billion annually and is grown on more than 3 million acres – has a far-reaching influence on the state's agriculture and economy. 'Agri Arkansas' explores the soybean's varied uses and its impact on the state, in addition to delving into Arkansas's move to become the first state in the nation to grow commercial crops of edamame – one of the fastest growing specialty foods in the United States.
A panel discussion concludes the episode. Guests include: Lanny Ashlock, Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board project manager, and Dr. Pengyin Chen, associate professor of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences at the University of Arkansas Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.
Former news anchor and veteran reporter Tony Brooks hosts.
