"Exploring Arkansas," with host Chuck Dovish will feature three new segments, including winners of the family outing contest this spring, in a new episode Monday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 p.m. on the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN.)
Earlier this year, AETN held a contest for one winning family, chosen randomly, to spend a day with Dovish as he taped an episode of "Exploring Arkansas" that focued on family-friendly activities. Lana McClain of Sherwood won the contest and chose her husband, Ed, and two granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Allison, to join her for the prize trip. Dovish arranged for the shoot to take place at Fort Rock Family Camp in Combs.
Fort Rock Family Camp and Retreat Center, nestled against the Ozark National Forest, is a place for family restoration and enrichment. The founders have recreated an 1800s fort and old west town where they welcome families to step back in time, slow down and enjoy the beauty of the camp.
"It was a great family weekend, and we all had a wonderful time," McClain said. "Chuck was extremely personable and a lot of fun to be around.
"He joined in all the activities, including trying to put on a frozen T-shirt! Fort Rock is a great place for families, and the people who run the camp are the most gracious hosts. The girls especially enjoyed the zip line and horseback riding, and who knew throwing a skillet would be so hard?"
Photos from the taping can be seen at flickr.com/aetntv, and additional information about Fort Rock Family Camp is available at fortrock.org.
Other segments in this episode include shape-note singing at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View and a visit to the Little Rock Zoo, which offers visitors a unique interactive experience with Rainbow Lorikeets and African penguins.
This episode will repeat Sunday, Aug. 12, at 5 p.m. and Monday, Aug. 27, at 6:30 p.m.
