'EUREKA! The Art of Being,' a film exploring the creative spirit of Eureka Springs, will premiere on the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) Thursday, Aug. 13, at 6:30 p.m.
'EUREKA! The Art of Being' explores artistry through the camaraderie and creativity of the art community in Eureka Springs, Arkansas – a town of 2,000 people that more than 300 artists, musicians and writers call home. Passion, wonder and creativity abound in this small, quirky community tucked away in the hills of the Ozarks where life can move at a slower pace but still have a richness and cosmopolitan feel. People, especially artists, have found a haven within the scenic terrain of cliffs, hollows and natural springs that encompass the town.
'I wanted to come to Eureka because it had beautiful buildings, and I stayed here because it has fascinating characters,' painter Larry Mansker said.
A rich art community has grown in Eureka Springs since the days of the Great Depression when the Works Progress Administration (WPA) commissioned artists. Throughout the years, painters, sculptors, metal artists, poets, photographers, writers, dancers and many others have been drawn to this little oasis in Arkansas where the roads are not straight and the passions run wild.
Some say 'it's where the misfits fit,' while others say 'it's a place of seekers;' either way it has been a place of solace for creative minds in need of a 'Eureka!' moment.
'EUREKA! The Art of Being' is produced by Quiet Center Films, LLC and AdPro Media Productions, Inc. The film will repeat Sunday, Aug. 16, at 3 p.m.
