Posted 21 Jul 2016

The Arkansas Educational Television Network, 350 South Donaghey Avenue, Conway, will host a community blood drive with Arkansas Blood Institute Thursday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donors will receive one free gate admission to Magic Springs and Crystal Falls, Arkansas Blood Institute's summer partner, and a T-shirt.

Healthy individuals age 16 or older may donate. Anyone under age 18 must weigh at least 125 pounds, and 16-year-olds must provide signed parental permission. Anyone age 18 or older must weigh at least 110 pounds.

All blood types are needed, and those with O-negative type blood are especially encouraged to donate. According to the American Association of Blood Banks, individuals with O-negative blood type make up only nine percent of the national population. However, O-negative blood can be used by anyone in an emergency situation when a patient's blood type has not yet been identified.

Appointments are not necessary but can be made by calling Jennifer Killough at 800-662-2386.

The Arkansas Blood Institute supplies blood for patients in 25 Arkansas hospitals.
