'Barnes and…A Conversation With,' AETN's public affairs series with host Steve Barnes, will feature four new interviews:
'Barnes and … A Conversation With the Luizzo Family' airing Thursday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m.; repeats Wednesday, May 13, at 6:30 p.m. Barnes talks with the children of the late civil rights activist Viola Liuzzo, who was a member of the NAACP and provided logistical, coordinative and transportation support for the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches. She was the first white female killed during the civil rights movement. Liuzzo's children – Anthony Liuzzo, Mary Liuzzo Lilleboe and Sally Liuzzo-Prado – share her courageous story. This episode was taped at the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site.
'Barnes and … A Conversation With Vivienne Schiffer' airing Thursday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m.; repeats Wednesday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m. Barnes and Vivienne Schiffer discuss her book 'Camp Nine.' This fictional novel is based on the life experiences of Japanese-Americans at internment camps once located in Jerome and Rohwer, Arkansas. Schiffer, a native of Rohwer, is a novelist and filmmaker. This episode was taped in the AETN studios.
'Barnes and … A Conversation With Dr. John Kyle Day' airing Thursday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m.; repeats Wednesday, May 27, at 6:30 p.m. Dr. John Kyle Day discusses his most recent book, 'The Southern Manifesto: Massive Resistance and the Fight to Preserve Segregation,' with Barnes. Day spent 12 years researching archives on the 'Southern Manifesto' – formally titled the 'Declaration of Constitutional Principles' – which was a document created to stop racial desegregation of the South by members of U.S. Congress in 1956. Day is an associate professor of history at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. This episode was taped in the AETN studios.
'Barnes and … A Conversation With Jessica Fellowes' airing Thursday, May 28, at 6:30 p.m. Joining Barnes from across the pond is Jessica Fellowes, author of three companion books to the Emmy Award winning 'Masterpiece' series 'Downton Abbey.' Barnes and Fellowes talk about the series and its success. Fellowes, also a journalist and public speaker, is the niece of 'Downton Abbey' creator Julian Fellowes. This episode was taped in the AETN studios in conjunction with Fellowes' guest lecture at Reynolds Performance Hall on the University of Central Arkansas campus.
'Barnes and … A Conversation With,' hosted by veteran journalist Steve Barnes and in production for more than 20 years, is an in-depth current affairs program featuring conversations with a wide variety of prominent individuals from diverse interests and backgrounds. The series is underwritten, in part, by a grant from the Moving Image Trust Fund.
