AETN offers new 'Wild Kratts' episodes as part of PBS KIDS Summer Safari

The Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) offers children an opportunity to learn developmental skills this summer through episodes of 'Wild Kratts' airing each Wednesday beginning July 1 as part of the PBS KIDS Summer Safari.

The month kicks off with the popular film 'Wild Kratts: Back in Creature Time' Wednesday, July 1, at 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. This program follows the Wild Kratts crew as they use the Time Trampoline to travel back in time and learn about extinct species of animals. From this episode, children learn about extinction, habitat loss and overhunting.

PBS KIDS launches new episodes of 'Wild Kratts' each Wednesday throughout July, after July 1. New 'Wild Kratts' programs premiering in July include:

• 'Wild Kratts: Aye Aye,' Wednesday, July 8, at 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. – When the Wild Kratts team embarks on a pirate adventure in the Indian Ocean, they discover a very strange, other-worldly castaway.
• 'Wild Kratts: Tenrec Treasure Hunt,' Wednesday, July 8, at 4:30 p.m. – When Chris sets up an elaborate treasure hunt centering on a cool and rare group of insectivores, the tenrec from Madagascar, the rest of the crew sets off to complete the hunt.
• • 'Wild Kratts: Lemur Legs,' Wednesday, July 15, at 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. – The Wild Kratts arrive in Madagascar for the first time, touching down in the southern region known as the spiny desert, where they discover a group of sifaka lemurs. Soon, they are learning about these lemurs' amazing vertical clinging and leaping abilities.
• 'Wild Kratts: Golden Bamboo Lemur,' Wednesday, July 15, at 4:30 p.m. – While in Madagascar, the Wild Kratts learn from Wild Kratts Kid, Patricia Ranomafana, that a golden bamboo lemur baby has been born. The team decides to stay a bit longer to learn about this rare lemur.
• 'Wild Kratts: Mini Madagascar,' Wednesday, July 22, at 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. – With no big land predators, Chris realizes Madagascar is one of the safest places in the world for adventuring. It's the perfect place to miniaturize and explore; however, the 'mini' Kratts soon learn they made a big mistake!
• 'Wild Kratts: Fossa Palooza,' Wednesday, July 22, at 4:30 p.m. – Chris, bummed that the gang must leave Madagascar without ever having seen amazing fossa, accidentally falls out the hatch of the Tortuga in mid-flight and lands deep in an island forest amongst a group of the very creatures he longed to find!
• 'Wild Kratts: The Last Largest Lobster,' Wednesday, July 29, at 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. – The Wild Kratts are having a picnic when a seagull steals one of their creature power discs and drops it into the ocean. The Kratt brothers dive in to retrieve the disc and encounter an enormous lobster.
• 'Wild Kratts: Stars of the Tides,' Wednesday, July 29, at 4:30 p.m. – 'Wild Kratts' joins the adventures of Chris and Martin Kratt as they encounter incredible wild animals, combining science education with fun and adventure as the duo travels to animal habitats around the globe.

The learning goals of 'Wild Kratts' are: to teach children science by building on their natural interest in animals; to promote observation skills that children will use throughout life; and to encourage investigation of science topics.

PBS KIDS is providing additional resources to help children learn while they are out of school. Activities for PBS KIDS' summer learning project 'What in the word?' are available for parents on pbskids.org/learn through Aug. 2. These activities help children learn skills in social studies, English, language arts and cognitive development.

PBS KIDS Summer Safari continues at pbskids.org/learn/summer. Resources include:

• Daily tips for parents to incorporate learning in activities, such as turning a picnic into a discussion about nutrition and where food comes from.
• A downloadable 'WordGirl Super Summer Fun Book' containing activities to help children develop reading, writing, and language skills. 
• Camp PBS Parents, a summer program focused on fun and learning with projects and crafts that parents can do at home with their children.
• Downloadable activity sheets for learning activities children can do in the library, at a restaurant or on a trip.

Free, educational resources to prevent summer learning loss are also available at aetn.org/kids. There, children will find informative games and projects based on some of their favorite PBS KIDS' programs. Parents can download an AETN Parent Resource Guide and materials such as reading charts for their children at aetn.org/parents.
