Arkansas PBS Foundaion shares resources for National Estate Planning Awareness Week

Posted 05 Oct 2018

The Arkansas Educational Television Network Foundation announced today that it is joining other Arkansas organizations in a public awareness campaign highlighting National Estate Planning Awareness Week, Monday, Oct. 15, through Sunday, Oct. 21.

Arkansas PBS Foundaion will recognize National Estate Planning Week by providing local residents with free estate planning booklets. The booklet will allow the user to start organizing their financial assets and thinking through their personal goals. Any person who would like to receive this free booklet may contact Karen Cooper at 800-662-2386 or legacygifts@aetn.org.

Estate planning is one of the most overlooked areas of personal financial management. It has been estimated that more than 120 million Americans do not have proper estate plans to protect themselves or their families in the event of sickness, accidents or untimely death. This circumstance can cause many families to have unnecessary expenses and financial hardship. Proper planning can help to avoid these unintended consequences.

"Public television has long served as an advocate for financial literacy," AETN and Arkansas PBS Foundaion Executive Director Courtney Pledger said. "Estate planning is a critical component of the financial health of most adults."

In 2008, Congress passed a resolution proclaiming the third week in October as National Estate Planning Awareness Week.

The Arkansas PBS Foundaion exists to raise the funds necessary to support AETN's mission of enhancing lives through trusted public television programs and educational services. The Foundation provides Arkansans opportunities to connect with the only statewide public media outlet by becoming a financial donor, corporate or foundation partner, volunteer, or by other means of giving. The Arkansas PBS Foundaion builds relationships between AETN, donors and viewers and is committed to being a transparent and accountable steward of private financial support.

The Arkansas Educational Television Network is Arkansas's only statewide public media network, which enhances lives by providing lifelong learning opportunities for people from all walks of life. AETN delivers local, award-winning productions and classic, trusted PBS programs aimed at sharing Arkansas and the world with viewers through the distinct channels AETN PBS, AETN Create, AETN PBS KIDS, AETN World and AETN AIRS on SAP. Audiences can also watch on several digital platforms, and members with AETN Passport have extended on-demand access to a rich library of public television programming. AETN depends on the generosity of Arkansans and the State of Arkansas to continue offering quality programming. Additional information is available at aetn.org. AETN is broadcast on KETS (Little Rock), KEMV (Mountain View), KETG (Arkadelphia), KAFT (Fayetteville), KTEJ (Jonesboro) and KETZ (El Dorado).
