Posted 18 Nov 2011
Will Social Security and Medicare be There for You? will air on the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m.
This program will discuss what the future holds for Social Security, Medicare and aging Arkansans.
According to AARP Arkansas, more than 600,000 Arkansans rely on Social Security and/or Medicare benefits. No state has a higher percentage 63 percent of older Americans relying on Social Security for 50 percent or more of their family income.
The Social Security Administration recently announced a 3.6 percent benefit increase for 2012. This is the first cost-of-living adjustment since 2009. Additionally, Medicare is not only a concern for seniors, but also for doctors, hospitals and other providers of health care.
Panelists for the program include: Gaye Humphrey, outreach specialist, Dallas Regional Office of External Affairs, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Eric McKisick, district manager, Sherwood District Office, Social Security Administration; Herb Sanderson, associate state director for advocacy, AARP Arkansas; and Melissa Simpson, director, Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP), Arkansas Insurance Department.
Steve Barnes hosts. The program is underwritten by AARP Arkansas.
