The Arkansas Educational Television Network original production "Men & Women of Distinction: Mike Beebe," as well as AETN's national PBS feature "State of the Art," have been chosen for screening as part of the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival (HSDFF).
"Men & Women of Distinction: Mike Beebe," which examines the life of the Honorable Mike Beebe as he rose from humble beginnings to serve as Arkansas governor, will screen Monday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. A conversation with Beebe will follow the screening. Producers Kathryn Francis Tucker and Gabe Mayhan will be in attendance.
"State of the Art," a documentary following seven diverse artists chosen for an exhibition at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, will screen Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 4:45 p.m. The film, a reflection of the groundbreaking work in contemporary art in America today, was produced by Arkansas filmmakers Craig and Brent Renaud and AETN and presented nationally by PBS.
Tickets for "Men & Women of Distinction: Mike Beebe" and "State of the Art" are $12 per film and may be purchased at hsdfi.org.
Additionally, AETN has partnered with HSDFF to host the Emerging Filmmakers Program – a hands-on filmmaking workshop for junior high and high school students – Monday, Oct. 21, and Thursday, Oct. 24, beginning at 9 a.m. each day. The program immerses students in the documentary form as they work in small groups led by professional filmmakers to plan and implement their own productions.
As part of the workshop, documentaries produced for AETN's "Student Selects" will be screened Monday, Oct. 21, at 12:45 p.m. The screening is free and open to the public. Workshops on Monday will include a screening of "Making Waves," Q&A with top sound designers and a hands-on master class.
Thursday's workshops will include a screening of "RUNNER," Q&A with Olympic marathoner Guor Marial, a sports storytelling master class and a screening of sports short films. The Emerging Filmmakers program is accessible both to beginners and more seasoned filmmakers.
