Daniel Tigers Neighborhood

A new generation of preschool “neighbors” will get to experience the Neighborhood of Make-Believe when “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” premieres Monday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. with a special one-hour block of two back-to-back episodes.

Inspired by the iconic, award-winning “Mister Roger’s Neighborhood,” The Fred Rogers’ Company program brings the best of what you loved about Mister Rogers to an exciting, new animated world.

In “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” 4-year-old Daniel Tiger, the son of the original series’ Daniel Striped Tiger, takes center stage in a series that features two engaging stories for preschoolers in each episode. Each story centers on a common early learning theme, building on research that’s proven what Fred Rogers advocated all along: strong social and emotional capabilities are the building blocks for doing well in school and in life.

For those of us who grew up with Mister Rogers’ kind, guiding influence, it’s a relief to see these values translated for our kids! While some classic episodes of Mister Rogers have become outdated (we’ve focused more on “What is a cassette tape?” than the real message a few times), Daniel starts his day by donning his red sweater, tying his sneakers and inviting his friends at home to visit the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, where he and his friends bring out the same lessons in a new format.

Preschoolers ages 2 to 4 are invited to step into Daniel’s world, where they closely follow and share Daniel’s everyday adventures. Together, young viewers and their families learn fun and practical strategies and skills necessary as they observe the Neighborhood of Make-Believe from a kid’s-eye view. Along with Daniel, kids will meet the rest of the next generation of characters in the neighborhood, including O the Owl, who lives with his Uncle X; Katerina Kittycat, daughter of Henrietta Pussycat; Prince Wednesday, King Friday’s youngest family member; and Miss Elaina, who lives with her parents, Lady Elaine Fairchilde and Music Man Stan.

And, believe us, they’ll like it! Some folks around the station have been lucky enough to test our screener episode with their kids – and we’ve nearly worn the DVD out! Tune in for the first episodes on Labor Day at 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. and see for yourself! (Regular episodes will continue airing weekdays at the same times.)

If you're already in love with the show - or would just like to win some fun AETN/PBS Kids flair - don't forget that we'll be giving away Daniel Tiger placemats to 30 randomly chosen members of our Kids Club! You can join at today if your kiddos aren't already members.
