Welcome to “Rise and Shine: Week 6”

We hope you have learned a lot during the first five weeks of “Rise and Shine!” Our extensive educational program is designed to make summer learning fun and to help K-5 students gain knowledge that aligns with Arkansas academic standards.

 

We have a lot of fun planned for you in our final week. Check out what’s on the way, and find this week’s full schedule below!

 

Monday

Grades K-2

“Field Trip: Uncover the Legend of the Old Spanish Cave”

Is ancient Spanish gold lost somewhere in the Ozarks? Uncover the legend of the Lost Louisiana Mine and other stories as you dive into one of the oldest caves in Arkansas!

 

“Time-Out With Tay”

Get ready to wrap up “Rise and Shine” with Tay as she finishes her super special dance routine and sends you off to a new school year with some slick new moves!

 

Grades 3-5

"Field Trip: Explore Scientific”

Whether you're exploring microscopic organisms or our mind-boggling universe, Explore Scientific is here with the tools to help broaden your perspective. Scott Roberts walks us through the differences in microscopes, telescopes and everything in between as he explains the great work that Explore Scientific is doing in Northwest Arkansas.

 

Tuesday

Grades K-2

“Mr. Steve, The Music Man: It’s All About Perspective”

Mr. Steve shares a whole new song about how sometimes the best way to approach a disagreement or misunderstanding is to try and see it from another point of view.

 

“Field Trip: Arkansas Big Cats at the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge”

Join wildlife interpreter Beckie Moore as she introduces us to a several of the large cats at the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. Visit the homes of tigers, panthers and several other larger-than-life felines.

 

“When I Was a Fifth Grader: Back to School”

Stacey and Joel are ready to head back to school and perform a fun, new, original song all about finding things in common, while still being your unique self. It’s a “Doo-et” for the ages!

 

Grades 3-5

Join the Rios family as they harvest beets, carrots and tomatoes from their farm and, then, get them ready to sell at the Bentonville and Rogers Farmers Markets!

 

“Zach Lunch: Packing a Healthy Lunch”

The school bus is here, and Zach Lunch must get his lunch packed. He and Doggy Bag work together to use everything they’ve learned during “Rise and Shine” to pack the tastiest, healthiest lunch they can!

 

Grades 3-5

Learn what it takes to grow the best blueberries. The Neal family walks us through how weather and other environmental factors can affect how a blueberry crop grows!

 

“Robbie Rocket”

Tired and almost out of fuel, Robbie has all but given up on finding a safe place to call home. But, he still has one more planet to talk to. Maybe his journey isn’t quite over yet!

 

Grades 3-5

“Mr. Steve, The Music Man: Fair Means You Get What You Need”

Mr. Steve’s final “Rise and Shine” song shares what it means to be fair and why fairness is so important for everyone to get what they need to be happy!

“Fun Friday: Self-Portraits With Randi House”

2018 Arkansas Teacher of the Year Randi House walks us through a fun way to create a self-portrait.

 

“Blueberry’s Clubhouse: The Bothersome Brother”

The big day is finally here: it’s the “Season 2” finale of Arkansas PBS original series “Blueberry’s Clubhouse!  Max and Blueberry are preparing for the Camp Onomatopoeia Kite Festival when their plans are disrupted by a surprise guest.

 

“Goodbye to ’Rise and Shine’: Special Musical Credit Roll!”

On the very last day of “Rise and Shine,” take a musical look behind the scenes to get a peek at all the people who helped bring this monumental broadcast project together – plus, a parade of funny bloopers!

Catch back up with Craig O’Neill as he shares one last Gobbledybook story to finish off “Rise and Shine”.

 

Arkansas Teacher of the Year Highlight

Randi House, from Theodore Jones Elementary School in Conway, is the 2018 Arkansas Teacher of the Year. She will lead students through literacy instruction on “Rise & Shine.” Randi provides thoughtful and engaging lessons and shares great stories with the students.

 

Power Packets
Request your “Rise and Shine” Power Packets – free summer learning activity kits that follow along with the series – to help extend learning beyond the broadcast. Power Packets are available in English and Spanish and can be downloaded or requested to be mailed directly to homes, daycares, summer camps and more. Both the request form for printed packets and PDFs of the activities can be found at
