Hi everybody, I’m Tori!  As an AETN Marketing intern, I am using my love of traveling to explore the history of Arkansas Highway 67, which will later be featured on an episode of “Exploring Arkansas” with Chuck Dovish.

In my first post, I investigated the connections between Arkansas Highway 67 and rock ‘n’ roll music during the 1950s.

An important stop along Arkansas Rock ‘n’ Roll Highway 67 is Walnut Ridge.  The town of Walnut Ridge played host to a group of very special musical visitors.

In 1964, the Beatles made a quick stop at the airport in Walnut Ridge while on their way to vacation at a ranch in Missouri.  This is the only recorded visit to Arkansas that the Beatles made as a group.

The city of Walnut Ridge pays tribute to the Beatles historic visit by holding a festival in downtown Walnut Ridge each year.  The next Beatles at the Ridge Music Festival is scheduled for September 18-19, 2015.

I had the chance to go to the Beatles at the Ridge Music Festival in September of 2013.  It was a blast!  There was a 1967 Volkswagen bus, groups performing Beatles music live, a parade and tasty food.

When I went to Walnut Ridge for the festival, I also got to see two awesome monuments the town built to honor its famous visitors.  One of these is the Guitar Walk.  The Guitar Walk is a 115-foot long concrete guitar replica that has plaques with information about famous rock ‘n’ roll musicians who traveled and played along Arkansas Highway 67.

The other monument is a 200-foot sculpture of the Beatles famous Abbey Road Album.  The sculpture also has famous Beatles’ lyrics and song titles that become visible at different times of the day.  During the festival, my mom, sister and I decided to join the band and have our picture made with John, Paul, Ringo and George.

In an upcoming episode of “Exploring Arkansas,” host Chuck Dovish will travel along Arkansas Highway 67 and visit some sites that pay homage to its rock ‘n’ roll past.

Be sure to tune in to watch the “Exploring Arkansas” episode on Arkansas Highway 67 airing on AETN: Monday, September 7, 6:30 p.m.
