Last night, The Smittle Band played to a full house at AETNs studios in Conway to tape an episode of AETN Presents: On the Front Row with The Smittle Band that will air Friday, Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. John Tarpley at The Arkansas Times describes the band's sound as "A Prairie Home Companion with aquavit," and Philip Martin at the Arkansas Democrat Gazette labels the group "a smooth swinging Dan Hicks for NPR listeners." Smittle's vocals have been described as smooth, heartfelt, smoky and voluptuous. Walker's guitar work is melodic, rootsy and sharp. Bassist John Davies spent a decade with The Cate Brothers and several years on the road with Michael Burkes. McGehee brings classical, jazz and blues patterns to the mix. Wittenberg backs with sparse percussion from a small kit. The band performs primarily original material.
