Are you a teacher looking for online lesson plan inspiration for your students? Are you a parent looking to supplement your child’s AMI work? Regardless of your role, ArkansasIDEAS has PBS LearningMedia resources for you!
Step 1: Don’t Panic
Gov. Asa Hutchinson has officially closed schools in Arkansas until April 17. For parents and teachers, this requires a lot of adjusting! First and foremost, we want everyone to breathe. These are trying times for everyone but, with some collaboration and a lot of creativity, we will get through it together.
Step 2: Explore
Our educators at ArkansasIDEAS have compiled a resource page to aid teachers and parents in their kids’ at-home learning. Whether you’re a teacher or a parent (or both), we can help! So, how does this work? Check it out here.
If you’re a teacher, search for the age range that most accurately applies to your students. We’ve broken the categories down into three different groups: Ages 3-5, Ages 6-11, and Ages 12+. Once you’ve determined the appropriate age group, click on the “Teachers” link below the respective ages. This should direct you to a page of teacher resources for online instruction, professional development and training, and additional resources. At the very bottom of the page, you will see a link that takes you to resources students can access from home. Those additional resources are broken down by subject, and they can be used to create lesson plans.
If you’re a parent, search for the age range that most accurately applies to your child (or children). We’ve broken the categories down into three different groups: Ages 3-5, Ages 6-11, and Ages 12+. Once you’ve determined the appropriate age group, click on the “Parents” link below the respective ages. You can scroll through that page to find activities for your children based on subject area. Simply click on a link and you will be directed to the resource page. These resources include educational videos, educational activities, and educational games!
While we have broken down the resources by age ranges, we encourage parents and teachers alike to explore all the groups. Many of these resources may be engaging for kids in a wide range of grades and ages. Use your judgement to determine what age range will best engage your students and children.
Step 3: Collaborate
If you’re a teacher, don’t hesitate to reach out to other teachers and ask for help or work together; divide and conquer! If you’re a parent, the same applies to you! Start an online parent group in your area where you can share ideas and resources. Feel free to explore the different age groups on the resource page; maybe something catches your eye that might apply to your child, regardless of the designated age group.
We are all in the same boat, and we’re here to help. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, reach out to the ArkansasIDEAS help desk Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Call (800) 488-6689 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
