“Student Selects” Entries Due March 30

Student filmmakers across Arkansas, there’s a special opportunity for you have your work broadcasted on AETN and, for seniors, an opportunity to earn a college scholarship! Be sure to remember that AETN "Student Selects" entries must be submitted electronically or postmarked by Friday, March 30.

"Student Selects is an annual AETN event that grants future filmmakers in grades K-12 the opportunity to submit their film and video handiwork for possible broadcast on AETN, streaming on, and screening at The Young Filmmakers Showcase in May and the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival (HSDFF) in October.

There are also great chances for high school students to win prizes and college scholarships! Ninth through 12th grade students may compete for the Arkansas Historic Places Student Film Prize, which honors student documentaries about any historic site in the the state that is at least 50 or more years old. High school seniors who submit films to AETN's "Student Selects" may also compete for $10,000 in college scholarships from the THEA Foundation.

"Student Selects" THEA Foundation Scholarships

  • Open to high school seniors in public, private, charter or home schools, as well as students who have completed their GED
  • 4 Young Filmmaker Scholarships for $2,500 each
  • Categories include: screenwriting, directing, cinematography and editing
  • Scholarships rewarded to institution of student's choice, regardless of major, GPA or test scores

Arkansas Historic Places Student Film Prizes

  • Open to students in grades 9-12
  • Films should be documentaries about historic sites 50 or more years old
  • 1st-4th place winners each receive $200 prize
  • Grand prize winner receives $700 prize

Winners from all events and student filmmakers whose work is chosen for broadcast will be honored at The Young Filmmakers Showcase on May 15 at the Ron Robinson Theater starting at 6 p.m.
