Maker spaces might be “the community resources of the 21st Century”, according to Joel Gordon, director of The Launch Pad, a new maker space in North Little Rock.

The Launch Pad is a public laboratory, where students, engineers, entrepreneurs and the general public can use tools like laser cutters and 3D printers to bring their ideas to life. The organization is making these and other expensive tools accessible to the people of Arkansas.

Professionals are available to help. Some volunteer their time to show people a few tools of their trade and to help create a culture in Central Arkansas that admires the “makers,” like architects, artists and engineers. The goal is to show the people of Arkansas that those who work with their hands are important, valued members of society and to push people toward the jobs available in these fields.

The Launch Pad is part of The Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub, a non-profit in North Little Rock dedicated to increasing innovative and entrepreneurial business activity in Arkansas. You can find more information at arhub.org.
