It’s almost Halloween, and that means that it’s time for everyone – including your favorite, local public television station – to break out their fake cobwebs and try and carve a pumpkin that won’t look quite as mangled as the one from last year. (No, really. Check ours out and vote in the AETN Battle of the Pumpkins at aetn.org/contest.)
In keeping with the season, our friends over at “Antiques Roadshow” have put out a special article that details some of their favorite ghost stories that they came across during the filming of the 2013 summer tour (found here), but that isn’t the only special Halloween-themed bonus that we have for you this year. AETN is also running a special Halloween version of our Student Selects program called “Ghosts, Blood, and Zombies” that is composed entirely of films made by middle and high school students here in Arkansas. Also, on Halloween day there is more than enough Halloween programming for viewers of all ages to be thrilled, chilled, and just otherwise entertained.
There are, as always, a litany of children’s shows that are all going to be doing something special this Halloween (I’m particularly fond of “Curious George,” myself), but please don’t forget to look into our more grown-up programming for all of your Halloween needs, too.
My personal favorite, “Secrets of the Dead,” will be airing on AETN-3 this Saturday (which, to be fair, isn’t Halloween, but All Saints Day is pretty cool, too) with a George Clooney-narrated episode on the Kennedy assassination. It’s early … or late, depending on how you look at it, with a 4 a.m. air time. So, get your alarm or bio clocks ready, or let the DVR do the hard work for you.
But why limit yourself to broadcast? There are also a number of really fun and interesting PBS web programs to keep in mind as your looking for something to watch this Halloween, so please don’t forget to check out “Frankenstein MD” (which is having its finale on Halloween so get caught up quick!) and all of the other fun and exciting things that are coming out of PBS Digital Studios.
In any event, please have a happy and safe Halloween from all of us here at AETN and definitely don’t forget to check out “Ghosts, Blood, and Zombies: A Student Selects Halloween” at 6 and 10:30 on Halloween night!
