Arkansas’s young filmmakers show off their spooky sides in “Ghosts, Blood and Zombies 3: A Student Selects Halloween Special.” Don’t miss four of the most frightening and hair-raising student films for Halloween!

Chosen from submissions to “Student Selects: A Young Filmmakers Showcase” – an annual event that celebrates the work of Arkansas’s kindergarten through 12th grade filmmakers – “Ghosts, Blood and Zombies” brings a fresh look at horror to AETN every fall, and this year is no exception.

Ghosts Blood and Zombies Dear Santa

Featured films for 2017 include:

  • “Dear Santa” (Har-Ber High School, Springdale) – A little girl tries to tries to tempt the spirit of Christmas by staying up all night to see him. The consequences of her actions shape her life forever.
  • “The Possession of Tim” Fayetteville High School) – A documentary film team follows a man possessed by a demon after an occult-themed bachelor party.
  • “Tess” (Har-Ber High School, Springdale)  – A young man named Teddy – who has been captured by a religious extremist – struggles to discover the motive behind his capture and makes a plan to escape. Throughout the film, we find that all is not as it appears, and that the real motive behind the capture is a twist that is sure to leave the audience on the edge of its seat.
  • "The Janitor" (Nettleton High School) – A straight-A student worried about leaving her geometry book reenters the school after hours and encounters a strange janitor.
  • Ghosts Blood and Zombies The Possession of Tim

    Tune in for the premiere Friday, Oct. 27, at 10:30 p.m. or settle in for a special Halloween block on Monday, Oct. 30, that closes with a special rebroadcast of “Ghosts Blood and Zombies 3” at 10:30 p.m.

    Interested in being featured in “Ghosts, Blood and Zombies” in 2018? Now in its 12th year, “Student Selects” gives Arkansas student filmmakers the opportunity for possible broadcast on AETN, streaming on aetn.org, scholarships, prize competitions and screenings, including the Student Filmmakers Showcase and the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival (HSDFF).

    High school seniors who submit films to AETN's “Student Selects” may also compete for $10,000 in college scholarships from the Thea Foundation. Thea awards four $2,500 Young Filmmaker Scholarships to graduating seniors who enter and qualify. Categories include: screenwriting, directing, cinematography and editing. This Thea scholarship competition is unique in that it is open to students who attend public, private, charter or home schools, as well as those who have completed their GED. Scholarships will be awarded to the student’s institution of choice, regardless of planned major, GPA or test scores.
