School may have started, but our free "AETN Presents: On the Front Row" summer concert series hasn’t ended. The Amy Garland Band and their talented, musical friends — including Bonnie Montgomery, Mandy McBryde and R.J. Looney — are joining us in the AETN studios Thursday, Aug. 28, at 6:30 p.m. for a free concert, and so can you!
Garland and her five regular band members — Nick Devlin, guitar; Mike Nelson, bass; Bart Angel, drums; Jeff Coleman, keyboard; and Brad Williams, mandolin, guitar and harmonica — blend folk, R&B, bluegrass, pop and country to combine rural ingredients for a deliciously unique sound.
Amy Garland, who began her musical career at the age of 9, moved to Arkansas in 1995 and self-released her album “Plays Well with Others” to such success in 2000 that she, “Barely has a copy of the CD myself …” and followed with similarly well-received “Angora” in 2004 and “Hang a Light” in 2013 (reviewed here by Arkansas Times Rock Candy blog). Still thinking Garland’s name sounds familiar for another reason? She's also a college professor, a regular host of KUAR’s “Arkansas Flyer” variety show, and host of the weekly, Americana-flavored “Backroads” radio show on Little Rock’s KABF FM 88.3.
Words aren’t enough to give you an impression of what you have to look forward to, though! Find a sample of The Amy Garland band in this video from their 2009 RiverFest performance:
And, of course, you can get a better listen to samples of her latest album “Hang a Light” here.
Now that you know what to look forward to, be sure to come out to our studios in Conway for the her free “AETN Presents” concert taping! Simply join us at 350 South Donaghey Ave. (on the corner of the University of Central Arkansas campus next to Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center, just down from the Reynolds Performance Hall) by 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27.
