AETN and PBS are committed to delivering high-quality nature and science programming, and you can see it like never before in “Big Blue Live” Aug. 31-Sept. 2! Each night at 7, we’ll join co-hosts Dr. M. Sanjayan and Liz Bonnin to interact in real-time with a variety of marine wildlife throughout California’s Monterey Bay.

This special, incredible program brings together scientists, filmmakers and photographers, animal behaviorists, other experts and, most importantly, you, over the course of three spectacular nights!

This live television and online event celebrates some of the world’s most amazing marine creature converging off of California’s coast. Set in Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, the bay has experienced an environmental rebirth.

This wildlife success story attracts humpback whales, blue whales, sea lions, dolphins, elephant seals, sea otters, great white sharks, shearwaters, and much more for a once-a-year marine animal phenomenon.

While a large part of what happens on each night’s episode depends on the animal visitors stopping in, you can count on a rough schedule:

Episode 1

  • Follow migrating whales, sharks and various birds as they join sea otters, sea lions and other species that live full-time in Monterey Bay. Watch reports from Monterey Aquarium and NOAA research vessels and get facts about humpback whale anatomy.

Episode 2

  • Dive into the hidden world of Monterey’s sea lions and hear about the bay’s rejuvenation through sea otters’ return. Join a scientist who’s trying to help solve the mystery of shark migration and study the anatomy of white sharks and elephant seals.

Episode 3

  • Follow the team on the water and in the sky as they search for the giant of the sea: the blue whale. Venture inside the whale with Dr. Reidenberg and join Sanjayan on an incredible journey to get up close and personal with these giants of the deep.

But “Big Blue Live” doesn’t stop with outstanding broadcasts! Experience the live action throughout the day by checking out the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Live Feeds, and interact through the “Big Blue Live” social hub.

Even more fun? Dr. Sanjayan and Liz are going to be live-tweeting and responding to your questions and comments throughout the broadcasts. Join the conversation by using #BigBlueLive.
