It’s suddenly April … and it’s just beginning to feel like spring outside! Take advantage of the new, friendlier weather and AETN and PBS KIDS’ materials for turning our focus outdoors.

Throughout April, we’ll be showing outdoors-themed PBS KIDS specials and sharing information about great online materials that you can use to help encourage your kiddos to explore the outdoors, learn about nature and the environment, and participate in outdoor activities. Read on to see our ideas for inspiring kids to get moving outside and to protect our natural “playground!

Growing Bodies and Minds:

As parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, educators and folks who just love kiddos in general, we know how important it is to teach our little ones to challenge their bodies and minds at an early age. You trust AETN and PBS KIDS to provide high quality early science and math content - and we deliver! On top of airing programs like “Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!,” “Curious George,” “Sid the Science Kid” and “Wild Kratts,” during the month of April, we’ll be combining our regular, engaging science learning with prompts to get moving outdoors with hands-on learning and outdoor exploration ideas.

Exploring Together:

Families can move from inspiration to activity and involvement with a new theme each week, starting April 7. We don’t want to give away all of our secrets, but check out the themes for coming weeks below - and see which complementary new PBS KIDS shows are airing!

Get Into Nature Week: Learn about the environment — including plants, animals, creatures, weather and more — with all new episodes of “Wild Kratts,” weekdays at 6:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Get Active Week: See how to make the most of outdoor time to get moving, with fun activities like hiking, gardening and biking, on new episodes of “Arthur,” weekdays at 6 a.m., 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Get Involved Week: Take the next step by practicing recycling and conservation, starting a walking club, or participating any of many other great ideas suggested in our special Earth Day programming on April 22 - the featured one-hour episode of “Cyberchase” (starting at 4:30 p.m.) is a great pick!

In "The Cyberchase Movie," the CyberSquad taps into kids' love of nature and concern for protecting the Earth with stories and activities that focus on math and the environment. Kids will love how the CyberSquad bands together and use their brains to stop Hacker's environmental disaster before it's too late! (Check out the preview here.)
