No doubt you’ve heard of the popular novel turned film “The Bridges of Madison County.” Well, how about the waterfalls of Madison County in Arkansas?
South of Eureka Springs in the Madison County Wildlife Management Area are a couple of really cool waterfalls that are also really easy to get to.
The first is simply called “Road 299 Falls” since it’s right off County Road 299 (unmarked). It’s only about a hundred yards from the little clearing, off to the left of the road where you can park. There’s another trail that veers off to the right which leads down to the base of the falls. You’ll want to be sure and take it to fully appreciate and experience this waterfall.
The other waterfall is “Glory B Falls” - only 100 feet from the road! Well, Glory Be!! And, when there’s less foliage on the trees, it’s also easy to spot — off to the left of the falls — what I’m naming, “Glory B Cascade,” which flows over a series of rocky ledges.
There are actually two other waterfalls in this Wildlife Management Area, but they are a little more difficult to reach.
Segments highlighting “Road 299 Falls” and “Glory B Falls” will premiere Wednesday, May 20, at 2 p.m. with our digital-first series “Trails Less Traveled” on Arkansas PBS and “Exploring Arkansas” social media outlets, including Facebook and YouTube, and on the Engage Arkansas PBS App, available for free in the App Store and Google Play Store.
If you’re holding out to watch on a bigger screen, tune in to AR PBS-1 in primetime on Thursday evening after “A Place to Call Home” to see the full segment on broadcast!
