Channel Your Inner Julia - AETN Passport Exclusive

Celebrate what would have been legendary chef Julia Child’s 106th birthday with an AETN Passport exclusive! Culinary whizzes of all ages and abilities can share the one and only Julia’s celebration of French food and learn to cook some of the treasured and classic dishes from her original public television series “The French Chef.”

Arriving just ahead of Child’s birthday on Aug. 15, twelve archival video-on-demand episodes will be available through AETN Passport starting Thursday, Aug. 9. Don’t miss original favorites “Asparagus Tip to Butt,” “Cake for Company,” “Cassoulet,” “Coq Au Vin,” “Crepes Suzette,” “French Onion Soup,” “French Tarts Apple Style,” “Mousse Au Chocolat,” “Quiche Lorraine and Company,” “Roast Duck a l’Orange,” “Soup au Pisto” and “Tart Aux Fruits.” To keep you cooking (or at least watching) away, an additional batch of 40 episodes will be added to AETN Passport Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018.

In addition to providing a fix for French cookery and Julia Child’s delightful brand of instruction, watching “The French Chef” will give a special look into television history. Birthed from a special presentation Child gave at Boston, Massachusetts, PBS station WGBH, “The French Chef” was one of the first cooking shows on American television. Produced from 1963-1973, the program introduced the United States to French cooking at a time when it was considered restaurant-only fare and not something within the home cook’s grasp.

In her passionate, capable, and approachable way, Julia Child changed the way Americans cook, eat, and think about food. She was a natural television star, warm and exuberant and ready to share all of the lessons she had learned from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and her years of work on her groundbreaking cookbook, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking." Julia Child presented the nuances of every recipe while also teaching her audience the basics of French cooking, from the proper way to choose and prepare cuts of meat and how to chop and sauté onions to achieving the perfect simmer and the safest way to flambé.

Never afraid to make mistakes on camera, she used them to her advantage to show her viewers how to adapt with confidence. As Julia herself said, "If I can do it, you can do it...and here's how to do it!” We can’t wait to hear how your creations turn out.
