Arkansas PBS exists because of viewers like you! From attending in-person events to visiting with us on social, you make public media come alive, and we’re especially grateful to each and every Arkansas PBS Foundation member who supports us our mission to educate, enrich and inspire in The Natural State. That’s why we’re taking the opportunity to celebrate one of our special public media partners with Arkansas PBS Member Spotlights.
Meet Karon L. Martin, a viewer like you from Maumelle, Arkansas!
What's your first memory of watching PBS?
My first “forever” memory of watching PBS occurred when, in 1971 at the age of 18, I watched the BBC series “The Six Wives of Henry VIII” on “Masterpiece Theatre” (now “Masterpiece”). That series singlehandedly provided me with a love and enjoyment for reading and studying English history that has remained with me to this day, 50 years later!
What are your favorite PBS shows?
“Masterpiece” has remained my all-time favorite. I love programming with any “historical” connection. I enjoy programming about singers, musicians and entertainers that I enjoyed watching and listening to while growing up. I also love any programming about nature.
How do you watch Arkansas PBS?
I usually watch programming on TV, but also enjoy watching (or often re-watching) my favorite programs on Arkansas PBS Passport on the computer.
Why do you give and support Arkansas PBS?
Over at least the last 50 years of my life, I have enjoyed the outstanding programming on PBS that, while being entertaining, has also enhanced my knowledge, expanded my imagination and increased my curiosity for continued learning. I am so appreciative of these wonderful “gifts” PBS has provided to me and also makes readily available to all. For that reason, I want to do all I can to make sure PBS is available for future generations.
Thank you, Karon, for sharing with us! Your membership allows us to bring you the local and national programs you love and truly helps ensure that we can continue to enrich Arkansans’ lives for generations to come.
