Tanglewood at 75

With outstanding performances by Kevin Kerby + Battery at 6:30 p.m. and “Great Performances: Tanglewood at 75” at 9 p.m., this AETN Arts Friday is a fabulous musical celebration. So reserve the comfiest seat in the house and let the festivities begin!

Kicking off a night of rousing music, “AETN Presents: On the Front Row with Kevin Kerby + Battery,” features central Arkansas folk-rock icon Kevin Kerby and a top-notch backing cast, including Geoff Curran, along with Marcus Lowe and Joshua Bentley of Il Libretina. With bright, honest songwriting and solid musical talent, Kerby + Battery’s wit and humor keep audiences on their toes with an expert balance of colorful insights and poeticism.

Then, at 9 p.m., “Great Performances: Tanglewood at 75” sweeps you off to the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts for one of the world’s most loved music festivals. This spectacular performance features appearances by the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), the Boston Pops, the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and the Tanglewood Musical Center Orchestra, conducted by John Williams, Keith Lockhart and Andris Nelsons. The night of name-dropping continues as iconic Tanglewood artists Emanuel Ax, Yo-Yo Ma, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Peter Serkin and James Taylor delight audiences with an evening of spectacular entertainment. Highlighted in the wide-ranging program are extraordinary compositions ranging from classical standards— such as Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy and Tchaikovsky’s String Quartet No. 1 in D Major Andante cantabile – favorites from the American Songbook, and pieces by Tanglewood legends Aaron Copeland and Leonard Bernstein. All in all? “Tanglewood 75” is a star-studded event that’s not to be missed!
