Go Fast! performs on "AETN Presents: On the Front Row" at 6:30 p.m., Friday, August 27

This AETN Arts Friday, we’re ready for the weekend! Gear up for a high-energy evening with spirited Southern Rock on “AETN Presents: On the Front Row With Go Fast!” at 7 p.m. Afterwards, travel even farther south with PBS Arts’ “Havana, Havana!” The music-documentary vibrates with soul and energy of pulsing cubano rhythms as a group of musical stars return to their home country after years abroad.

For nearly 12 years, North Little Rock band Go Fast has blended Americana-infused proto-rock, hot-rod culture, monster movies and other American rock staples. In their “AETN Presents: On the Front Row” performance, you’ll catch a glimpse of the bands who inspired them, including Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynryd and Mountain. Go Fast features Scott Diffee on lead guitar and vocals, Jimmy Powell on drums and Brent LaBeau on bass.

The irrepressible rhythm and spirit of African-Cuban drummers, guajira guitarists and the steady melodies of 21st century Cuban music take center stage in PBS Arts’ “Havana, Havana!” part of the 2012 PBS Arts Summer Festival. Celebrated musician Raul Paz brings fellow stars Descemer Bueno, Kelvis Ochoa and David Torrens together to journey back to their home country for a concert in Havana. While all of the artists left Cuba years before, the culture’s early influence has never deserted their music. Similarly, their decision to return has injected a new spirit into Cuban music as a whole. “Havana, Havana!” mirrors Cuba’s growing relationship with the world and highlights the evolution of the country’s musical expression in the 21st century.
