AETN Arts Fridays opens the season at the Met with “Anna Bolena”, 9 p.m.  Join AETN for some mad queen fun!  Anna Netrebko opens the season with her portrayal of the ill-fated queen driven insane by her unfaithful king.  She sings one of opera’s greatest mad scenes in this Met premiere production by David McVicar.  Ekaterina Gubanova is her romantic rival, Jane Seymour, Ildar Abdrazakov sings Henry VIII, and Marco Armiliato conducts.

The opera, a compelling dramatization of the tragic final days of Anne Boleyn—whose husband Henry VIII spurns her and has her sentenced to death.  The cast includes Russian mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova as Anna’s romantic rival, Giovanna (Jane Seymour); Russian bass Ildar Abdrazakov as the cruel Enrico (Henry VIII); American tenor Stephen Costello as Anna’s first love, Lord Percy; and American mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford as the queen’s devoted page Smeton.
