Governor Asa Hutchinson Press Conference on Coronavirus

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson is set to hold a news conference with state public health and emergency management officials on Friday, Feb. 28 to discuss the state's preparation plan and strategy to address coronavirus.

The novel coronavirus was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China and which has now been detected in 37 locations internationally, including cases in the United States. The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named COVID-19.

 A United States citizen died in a Wuhan hospital on Feb. 6 from the coronavirus, becoming the first American to be killed by the new virus, according to the United States Embassy.

 A new coronavirus case in California could be the first in the U.S. that has no known connection to travel abroad or another known case, a possible sign the virus is spreading in a U.S. community. It is a person in California who had no known travel to a country where a virus outbreak has been taking place, or connection to a known patient.
